- 450 g smoked turkey bacon
- 110 g light brown sugar
- 60 ml pure maple syrup
- 440 g all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp instant yeast
- 120 ml whole milk
- 1 large egg
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter (plus more for filling)
- Cream cheese (for frosting)
Instructions
- In a skillet, cook the smoked turkey bacon until crispy. Toss with light brown sugar, maple syrup, and black pepper, then bake until caramelized.
- Prepare tangzhong by whisking together all-purpose flour and water in a saucepan over medium heat until thickened; cool before using.
- Combine remaining flour, sugar, instant yeast, salt in a bowl; add milk, egg, softened butter, and cooled tangzhong. Knead until smooth.
- Allow dough to rise until doubled in size.
- Roll out dough into a rectangle; spread softened butter on top followed by cinnamon-sugar mixture and crumbled turkey bacon.
- Roll tightly into a log shape, slice into rolls, and place in a greased baking dish to rise again.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) until golden brown.
- For the frosting, mix butter, cream cheese, powdered sugar, maple syrup until smooth; drizzle over warm rolls.
