Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 medium firm apples (like Granny Smith or Fuji)
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon red food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 6 wooden sticks or skewers

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry the apples thoroughly. Remove any wax by briefly dipping them in boiling water, then dry completely. Insert wooden sticks into the core of each apple.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water over medium heat, stirring until dissolved.
  3. Stop stirring once the mixture boils and cook until it reaches 300 degrees Fahrenheit (hard crack stage), around 15-20 minutes.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in red food coloring and vinegar. Skim off any foam.
  5. Dip each apple into the hot syrup, ensuring an even coating before placing on a lined baking sheet.
  6. Allow coated apples to cool completely for about 30 minutes before serving.
