  • ½ cup granulated white sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon Kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • One 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
  • 10 ounces soft caramels (unwrapped)
  • 1 teaspoon flaked sea salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with foil and coat it with cooking spray.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together room temperature salted butter with light brown and granulated sugar until fluffy using an electric mixer.
  3. Beat in eggs and vanilla extract until smooth. Gradually mix in baking soda, salt, and flour until just combined. Fold in semi-sweet chocolate chips.
  4. Press three-quarters of the dough evenly into the prepared pan.
  5. In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt sweetened condensed milk with unwrapped soft caramels until smooth.
  6. Pour three-quarters of the melted caramel over the dough base and drop spoonfuls of remaining dough on top.
  7. Bake for 25–30 minutes or until the center is set. Immediately sprinkle flaked sea salt on top while warm.
  8. Allow to cool completely before slicing into bars.
