- 1 cup raisins
- 3–3.5 cups all purpose flour
- ¼ cup all purpose flour (for cross topping)
- 3–4 tablespoons water (for cross topping)
- ¼ cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
- 1 teaspoon maple syrup (for glaze)
- 2–3 teaspoons milk (for glaze)
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar; let it sit until bubbly (5-10 minutes).
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together warm milk, melted butter, sugar, cinnamon, allspice, salt, vanilla extract, and raisins.
- Add the activated yeast mixture to the wet ingredients; mix well.
- Gradually stir in flour until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth.
- Place in a greased bowl; cover and let rise in a warm area until doubled (about 1 hour).
- Punch down the dough; divide into 12 pieces and shape into balls. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
