- 1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper

- 3/4 cup whole milk
- 4 tablespoons butter (melted)
Instructions
- In a large pot, melt butter over medium-high heat. Add onion, carrots, and celery; cook for 5 minutes until softened. Stir in garlic.
- Mix in flour and cook for 1 minute. Gradually add evaporated milk and chicken stock, stirring continuously until thickened.
- If using raw chicken, add it along with an additional cup of broth; simmer for 20 minutes until cooked through. Shred the chicken and return it to the pot.
- For the dumplings, combine flour, baking powder, pepper, salt, and thyme in a bowl. In another bowl, mix whole milk with melted butter; combine with dry ingredients.
- Drop spoonfuls of dumpling batter into the simmering soup; cover tightly and steam for about 15 minutes without lifting the lid.
