Ingredients

  • 300 g all-purpose flour
  • 60 g granulated sugar
  • 220 g unsalted butter (cold)
  • 1 kg apples (such as Pink Lady or Fuji)
  • 190 g brown sugar
  • 1¼ tsp ground cinnamon
  • 5 tbsp almond flour
  • Vanilla ice cream

Instructions

  1. Prepare the pie crust by mixing flour, sugar, and salt in a food processor. Add cold butter and pulse until crumbly. Gradually add water until the dough comes together. Wrap and chill for 30 minutes.
  2. For the apple filling, peel and slice apples. Toss with brown sugar, cinnamon, cornstarch, salt, and water. Cook briefly in melted butter until slightly softened.
  3. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). Roll out chilled dough and fit into a baking dish. Fill with apple mixture and sprinkle almond flour on top if desired.
  4. Brush the top with beaten egg mixed with water and sprinkle brown sugar before baking for about 50 minutes until golden brown.
  5. Serve warm slices topped with vanilla ice cream.
