Ingredients

Scale
  • ¼ cup red pepper flakes
  • 3 green onions (chopped)
  • 2 garlic cloves (minced)
  • 1 tbsp ginger (minced)
  • 4 cups chicken/beef/vegetable broth
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil
  • 12 oz frozen wontons
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • Optional: rice vinegar, sesame oil

Instructions

  1. Prepare the homemade chili oil by combining red pepper flakes, sesame seeds, minced garlic, minced ginger, sugar, salt, and optional cinnamon stick in a heat-safe bowl. Heat neutral oil in a small pan until hot, then pour over the chili mixture and stir. Set aside.
  2. In a large pot, melt coconut oil over medium heat. Add chopped white/light green parts of green onions and sauté with minced ginger and garlic until fragrant (about 2-3 minutes).
  3. Pour in the broth and bring to a bubble; reduce heat and simmer for about 5 minutes.
  4. Add frozen wontons along with soy sauce and optional rice vinegar; simmer gently until heated through.
  5. Serve hot, garnished with dark green onion tops and drizzle with chili oil.
